Dew Tour Breckenridge 2016 Ski Snowboard Highlights

As one of the pivotal extreme/action sports events, Dew Tour winter games always brings the heat with ski and snowboard competitions. The Dew Tour Breckenridge 2016 staging was a great showing of skill and perseverance by the athletes for the sport. Dew Tour snowboarding and skiing events that air during December are a great way to end out the year with a bang. Both the Women’s Ski Slopestyle Jump and the Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle Jump will be on display here.

Starting off, acknowledgment should be given to the ten athletes who competed:
Nikki Blackall (Canada)
Isabell Atkin (Great Britain)
Kim Lamarre (Canada)
Keri Herman (United States)
Yuki Tsubota (Canada)
Katie Summerhayes (Great Britain)
Kaya Turski (Canada)
Maggie Voisin (United States)
Devin Logan (United States)
Kelly Sildaru (Estonia)

Competition Requirements

The skiers were required by the judges to compete across four different jumps, with athletes being directed to successfully land two of the four jumps. The established tricks required were to include the Spin Leftside, Switch Leftside, Rightside, Switch Rightside, plus a unique trick. The overall maximum score was 100 points, with the best two runs being totaled. It was all about variety, difficulty, and amplitude. It’s really about the progression of the athlete’s tricks.

Maggie Voisin in round one came in with great speed at the top of the hill to land a Leftside 900 and her score was 39.33.

Kelly Sildaru accomplished a Switch Leftside 900 in round one with a 44.33 score.
So, there was more snow falling at this point in the competition which then slowed down part of the run for the skiers. Skiers like Kelly and Maggie started much further at the top of the hill to gain more speed on their runs. This strategy seemed to really help as skiers were getting more amplitude on their jumps.

Kelly Sildaru came in strong again with a Switch Rightside 900 on her second run-scoring 42.00 points.

Kim Lamarre came in Switch Leftside with a lot of speed. She, however, over-rotated on the 900 on her run causing her to crash on her landing.

Maggie Voisin with a Rightside 540 scored 29.66 which moved her up to 3rd place.

Weather Conditions at Dew Tour Breckenridge 2016

Breckenridge Colorado winter brought with it even heavier snowfall during the snowboard competition. It became so intense that the women snowboard competition was postponed. I’ve got to hand it to the snowboarders that competed during this weather, they kept pushing.

Right out the gate in round one was Brock Crouch with a Backside Triple Cork which gave him a score of 41.00 points.

Sebastien Toutant started from where the women skiers did, which was to start your run further up the hill so you have more speed. He landed a Cab/Switch Frontside Double 12 and finished it off with a Nose Press scoring 44.33 points.

Mark McMorris started at the top of the hill as well to land a Backside Triple Cork with a 46.33 score.

As the competition went on there was still more snow to battle which had some effect on visibility and speed of the riders. But after the 2nd round, more riders started at the top of the hill to gain more speed.

The Canadian Mark McMorris came in strong despite that heavy snowfall and did a Frontside Triple Cork in round two which landed him a score of 49.00. He was just one point shy of the full 50, but it was such an awesome trick to see. This was the highest point given in this competition and even Ski. He had a 46.33 score on his first run with a Backside Triple Cork.

Another high scorer was also Max Parrot. During round three he scored a 49.33 with a Cab/Switch Frontside Triple Cork 16. This was a well-needed score since his first two attempts had really low scores.

The final results had a Canadian sweep with Mark McMorris, Tyler Nicholson and Sebastien Toutant in the top three spots.
