Top Tracks

The “Soundboy Killa” track started out a classic POD rock vibe, with the heavy pulsating guitar. It then merged into the dancehall/reggae vibe. “Soundboy”, which is a popular term that originated from the Jamaican dancehall, refers to a DJ selector. The Jamaican dancehall scene is known to have soundclash, otherwise known as intense competitions between different sound systems. So hearing a POD track that directly refers to that was a treat. I’m always excited when rock music is fused with Jamaican music genres. I also appreciated Sonny’s attempt at speaking Jamaican Patois. This track has a lot of attitude and the lyrics, “I was raised in a dub resurrection, one love connection” shows the true appreciation of Jamaican music. Another highlight of this track was at the 2:26 mark where the band covered the 1979 hit “Armagideon Time” by artist Willie Williams. Growing up in Jamaica and hearing this song in its original format, to hearing POD’s spin on the melody was another treat.

“Listening for the Silence” has been on constant repeat for me. I originally gravitated to this single as my ultimate favourite, but at this point, the album is so great that it fluctuates. The bridge takes it to the next level. In some ways, this track gives me old school 2001 hit “Alive”, in relation to its energy and feel.

“Circles” has a great melody and hook. “Domino” mellow mood gives the album a nice balance. “Fly Away” has a great message, with relatable, positive lyrics, “cause its all about love.” “Home” got me in my feels. This track gives the right mix of emo and scream your lungs out.

Great review, it definitely took me a few listens with Circles as I definitely prefer the harder tracks though like the band experimenting with different sounds and styles.

    • Thank you Arturo. Yeah definitely love the harder tracks, but have an appreciation when bands mix it up. Some bands go overboard though and go pop. Not a fan of that. But this album by P.O.D had a nice balance to it. What’s your ultimate P.O.D album?
